Just a few days after the South African captain Faf du Plessis said Dale Steyn may not come back to the Test level again, the fast-bowler has come up with a response and has declared himself fit a month before the Test series against Bangladesh, so as to be in contention for the series.

The news was confirmed by Steyn himself on social media as he tweeted –

It’s almost nine months when he last participated in a game. Steyn was part of the squad for the Test series against Australia last year, which Proteas won by a margin of 2-1. It was in the first Test match when he suffered pain in his shoulder and walked off the field. Later, he was ruled out of the series due to shoulder fracture and it was confirmed that he will miss a major part of the upcoming international fixtures as well.

He was later included in the South Africa A squad before the national side was to tour England but he withdrew his name, as he needed some more time. After two months, he has regained full fitness and is ready to go at the international level.
However, the fast-bowler has to prove his fitness at the domestic level so as to find a place in now a settled pace bowling line-up. South African selectors have an option to give him a place in the South Africa A squad for the second unofficial Test against India A, which starts on August 19.
It will also be a big boost for the second string side as well, led by Aiden Markram.

Steyn’s fitness has also come as a good news for South Africa at a time when there are talks of Morne Morkel being approached by the English counties to sign a Kolpak deal. Should Morkel accept the deal, the national selectors would be forced to look back at their most experienced and former number 1 Test fast bowler, Dale Steyn.
