Former Punjab cricketer Manpreet Gony had played two ODIs for India in 2008. He earned the national team call-up after performing well in IPL 2008 for the runners-up Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In that season, the right-arm medium pacer got 17 wickets in 16 matches (average 26.05 and economy rate 7.38).
Gony ended up as the joint fourth most wicket-taker in that season and joint most wicket-taker for the CSK. Later, Gony continued his IPL career for CSK till 2010, and he also represented Deccan Chargers (2008-2010) and Kings XI Punjab (2013-2017), but never showed the same character with the ball.
