In 2012, Shikhar Dhawan had tasted a captaincy stint, but he has come a long way despite having a mixed start as a leader.

The star batsman had played a significant role for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL after represented Delhi Capitals (DC). He had also represented Mumbai Indians (MI) and now-defunct Deccan Chargers (DC).

The 33-year-old Dhawan, who had returned to his old-franchise, Delhi Capitals had an outstanding season with the bat. Dhawan had slammed five fifties in the previous edition.

In 16 matches, Dhawan had scored 521 runs at an average of 34.73.

Since 2007, Dhawan had played 6928 runs at an average of 32.2. He had struck 53 fifties. Thus, his experience of playing international cricket and sharing a dressing room with veterans of the game makes him one of the premium contenders.
