Four Indian Players Who Might Never Return to ODI Squad

Indian selectors have turned their heads towards the young talent which has almost closed the doors on some veterans of the game. With growing age and dropping fitness, it looks like a difficult road back for some players into the Indian ODI squad.

Meanwhile, we have seen the emergence of wrist spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Therefore, it has made it difficult for Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to come back into the white ball version. However, it would be a bit unfair to rule them out of contention.

On the other hand, there are some players who might never return to the ODI squad. They are at the fag end of their career and they would need a miracle to get them back into the limited overs set-up.

Here are four Indian players who might never return to the ODI squad.

Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel played his last ODI in the Indian colors in 2012. With MS Dhoni to be at the helm till the next year World Cup, Parthiv Patel comeback looks almost impossible. Furthermore, Dinesh Karthik has also shown good form in the recent past which makes him the backup keeper.

Moreover, exciting young talents like Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson are making a strong case for themselves.

Meanwhile, Parthiv Patel will have to come up with extraordinary performance to be the cynosure of all eyes. However, it already looks like the end of his ODI career for the Indian team.

Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma played his last One-Dayer in the colored jerseys in 2016. Since then the lanky fast bowler has failed to make the cut into the Indian squad let alone the playing XI. In fact, it is noted that experienced pacer has concentrated his energy on the red ball version in the recent past.

Furthermore, the Indian team relies on Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah in the 50-overs format. Meanwhile, the young fast bowler like Shardul Thakur, Siddharth Kaul, Mohammed Siraj is also impressing with their performance.

Ishant has played in 80 One Day International and he has scalped 115 wickets. He has bowled with an average of 31 and has been out of action for the last two years in ODI form.

Yuvraj Singh

We all know that Yuvraj Singh is a fighter and won’t give up easily on his return. However, the all-rounder fitness hasn’t been at the top of his mark.

Yuvraj has made some incredible comebacks for the Men in Blue. Nevertheless, it would be asking too much from him to make another stellar return.

The southpaw linchpin played his last ODI in June 2017. Since then, the playing XI doors have been closed for him. Furthermore, Yuvraj hasn’t impressed with his performance in the domestic circuit.

Robin Uthappa has been one of the most consistent performers in the Indian Premier League. However, the right-hander has failed to impress in the domestic circuit. Furthermore, Uthappa’s fitness is also not up to the mark.

Meanwhile, the flamboyant Indian batsmen last played for India in 2015 against Zimbabwe. The stylish right-hander has played 46 ODI. Uthappa averages 25.94 in the white ball version and therefore failed to grab his chance in the Indian side.
