While the cricket world believes that the upcoming Australia tour will not be easy for the Indian team due to the strong and mature Australian side, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir believes that the present Indian bowling attack can destroy the strong Australian batting line-up.
Virat Kohli-led Indian team won their first-ever Test and ODI bilateral series in Australia during the 2018/19 Australia tour. However, during that entire tour, Australia missed the services of Steven Smith and David Warner as both of them were banned at that time due to their involvement in the ball-tampering incident during the 2018 Cape Town Test against the hosts South Africa.
But both Smith and Warner can be present in the upcoming home summer when India will tour in Australia for the four-match Test series and the limited-overs series. While they are the very strong addition in the Australian batting line-up, Marnus Labuschagne is also a top performer with the bat. That’s why many believe that it will be tougher for the Indian team to beat Australia in Australia in the forthcoming series.
It’s the bowlers that will win you the Test matches: Gautam Gambhir
However, Gautam Gambhir believes that the present Indian bowling attack is very strong that can destroy the dangerous Aussie batting line-up. The former Indian top-order batsman thinks that the bowlers are the main reason to achieve continuous success in the Test matches, and the present Indian team has this kind of bowling attack.
Gambhir recently said on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected, “Because India has got the bowling attack to rattle the Australian batting line-up even with David Warner and Steve Smith, but yeah, it’s going to be a different challenge than what it was last time around. So, you would want Virat Kohli to fire plus the bowlers as well because it’s the bowlers that will win you the Test matches.”
While Gambhir also admitted that the upcoming Australia tour will be different for the Indian team, the former Indian cricketer also believes that the Indian captain Kohli is preparing to face the strong hosts.
Gambhir added, “Whether it was his (Kohli’s) first tour, whether it was second tour, this time around, obviously, he (Kohli) would be gearing up for it because it’s going to be a different challenge with David Warner and Steve Smith coming back into the Australian Test line-up.”
The four-match Test series between Australia and India will run between 3rd December 2020 and 7th January 2021. Their second Test at Adelaide (11th-15th December) will be the day/night pink-ball Test match.
