Meanwhile, the other 50% of the stakes in Delhi Capitals are owned by the JSW group who had become the co-owners last year after paying a hefty amount of INR 550 Crores. In fact, the name change from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals was done by the JSW group.
Gambhir is looking to buy 10% stakes.
“The matter has been discussed for the last few months and it is only a matter of days,” the source said as quoted by Times of India.
Delhi Capitals did a fine job in IPL 2019 as they finished at the third place in the league stage. However, their journey was ended when they lost to Chennai Super Kings in the second qualifier.
On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir played for two franchises in his IPL career – Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals. The left-hander also led KKR to glory in IPL 2012 and 2014 season. However, Gambhir was not able to repeat the same magic with Delhi Capitals.
Gambhir was roped in by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2018 auctions. The veteran played only five matches and as he could not deliver the goods with the bat, he went on to resign from the captaincy role. Subsequently, Shreyas Iyer was given the captaincy reins and Gambhir didn’t play any more matches in IPL 2018.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have roped in experienced Indian players like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane. The IPL 2020 Auction will take on the 19th of December at Kolkata.
