Former Caribbean cricketer Carl Hooper was one of the great all-rounders during his cricket career. The right-handed batsman and right-arm off-spinner was equally effective in both the responsibilities.

From 1997 to 1999, Hooper led the Caribbean team in four ODIs. But despite his selection in the Caribbean squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999, he suddenly announced his retirement from the international cricket just three weeks before the beginning of ICC Cricket World Cup 1999. His cricket board and teammates were very surprised by that sudden decision.

But in 2001, Hooper returned to international cricket. Since his return to international cricket, he led the West Indies team till his last international match. Hooper even continued the captaincy role in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003, where he played his last international match.

During his entire international career between 1987 and 2003, West Indies cricketer Hooper played 102 Tests and 227 ODIs.
