Former Australian left-arm slow-medium bowler Bert Ironmonger made his Test debut at the age of 46 years and 237 days – the fourth oldest Test debutant at present. He made Test debut during the Brisbane Test against England in November 1928.

While Ironmonger managed to pick up four wickets in his first Test, he finished his Test career with 74 wickets after playing 14 Tests. His bowling average was 17.97 and economy rate was just 1.69. During his Test career, which ran till February 1933, he managed to claim four five-wicket hauls and two ten-wicket hauls.

Ironmonger had the best bowling figures in a Test innings of 20-7-23-7 against West Indies at Melbourne in February 1931. In February 1932, he achieved his best Test match bowling figures which were 22.5-12-24-11.
