Great Opportunity For Youngsters In Absence Of MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya – Virat Kohli
As expected, BCCI rested quite a few senior players in the Indian National Cricket Team to give a chance to the youngsters. The likes of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah were given rest to bring new faces in the lineup. Meanwhile, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli believes it is a golden opportunity for the youngsters to show what they have.
India will be hoping one of the lower-middle order batsmen steps up and take the role of a finisher. Especially, considering the absence of MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya from the limited-overs squads for the West Indies tour. While Hardik Pandya was rested for the tour, Dhoni has taken a 2-month sabbatical following the World Cup and is training with the Indian Army in the Kashmir Valley.
Virat Kohli reckons that the West Indies tour is a great opportunity for the new players in the squad to cement their spot in the side, ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. In the absence of big names like Hardik Pandya, MS Dhoni and Jasprit Bumrah, the focus will now be on the future stars.
Opportunity for the youngsters – Virat Kohli
Team India is looking to put aside their World Cup heartbreak and start fresh in the tour of the West Indies. As part of looking ahead to the T20 World Cup, and beyond, India have picked a very young side for the shorter formats of the game. Captain Kohli is confident that the youngsters will step up to the role.
”Not having Hardik Pandya and M.S. Dhoni, the two finishers around, is different to what we are used to but also, as I said, it is an opportunity for the guys who are coming up. Looking forward to the next T20I World Cup, I think it is a great position for all the youngsters to be in there. As I said, it is a great chance for them to show the world what they have,” Virat Kohli said to the reporters.
The Men in Blues are set to play a strong of T20I games before the World Cup kicks off in Australia late next year. Kohli said that the team will look to exploit these opportunities to pick the best combination.
India will play 2 T20Is in Florida on Saturday and Sunday before heading to Guyana for the third T20I on August 6. Virat Kohli’s men will also play 3 ODIs after which they will begin their World Test Championships campaign against the West Indies later in August.
