Harbhajan Singh Congratulates Mayank Markande For His Maiden International Call-Up
On Friday (15 February), 21-year-old leg-spinner Mayank Markande has received his maiden international call-up. The senior off-spinner Harbhajan Singh congratulated the young spinner and his childhood coach.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squads for the upcoming limited-overs home series against Australia. India will play the two-match T20I series and subsequently five-match ODI series against Australia from 24 February to 13 March.
The selectors have surprisingly selected the young leg-spinner Mayank Markande for the upcoming T20I series. Since his debut in professional cricket, the leg-spinner has impressed with his bowling skills. He made his IPL debut during the previous IPL season (2018). Playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018, he bowled impressively and picked up 15 wickets in 14 matches.
After the young man has earned his maiden international call-up, the senior Indian and Punjab off-spinner Harbhajan Singh congratulated him and also gave best wishes for him. The 38-year-old off-spinner further congratulated Mayank Markande’s childhood coach.

Mayank Markande’s professional cricket career
In the domestic cricket, Mayank Markande represents for Punjab. He made his T20 debut in January 2018 during the 2017/18 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir. Later, in February 2018, he made his List A debut against Haryana at 2017/18 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Moreover, in this November, Mayank Markande made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy game against Andhra.
In the present days, he regularly represents India A in both first-class and List A formats.
Mayank Markande has played seven first-class games, 22 List A matches and 18 T20s where he has picked up 34, 45 and 20 wickets respectively. In every cricket format, the leg-spinner has impressed with his brilliant bowling skills. Now, it will be interesting to see how the young man performs in the upcoming home T20I series.
