England star Danielle Wyatt has expressed her disappointment over not getting a contract at the auction for the inaugural edition of the much-awaited Women’s Premier League (WPL).

The historic event took place in Mumbai on Monday (February 13). Players from around the world had registered their names for the auction. In the end, a total of 87 players, including 30 overseas, were sold at the auction. The five franchises spent a total of Rs 59.50 crore on buying 87 players.

Indian women team’s star opener Smriti Mandhana was the costliest player at the auction. Royal Challengers Bangalore secured her services for Rs 3.40 crore. And while several cricketers from around the world earned their maiden WPL contracts, there were a lot of big names who missed out.

Danielle Wyatt disappointed:

There is absolutely no denying the fact that Danielle Wyatt is one of the most popular overseas female cricketers in India. She had become popular in the country in 2014 after asking India cricket superstar Virat Kohli to marry her.

Following Kohli’s heroics against South Africa in the semifinal of the 2014 T20 World Cup, Danielle Wyatt had taken to Twitter to give him a marriage proposal. Since then, she has been quite popular among the Indian fans. Unfortunately, she would not be able to play in front of them in the inaugural edition of the WPL.

And it has made her very disappointed. A day after missing out on the WPL contract, Danielle Wyatt took to Twitter to state that she was heartbroken as she tweeted:

“Dreamt of playing in the WPL. Heartbroken ? Congrats to all who got picked up. India is a wonderful place to play cricket”

The fans were quick to sympathize her with some encouraging words. Here are some of the messages from the fans in response to Danielle Wyatt’s tweet:
