Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has taken the head coach role of Rotterdam Rhinos, a franchise side of Euro T20 Slam.
The Euro T20 Slam 2019 will be the inaugural edition of this tournament. Ireland (Cricket Ireland), Scotland (Cricket Scotland) and the Netherlands (Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond) cricket boards will combinedly organise this tournament. The first edition will run from 30th August to 22nd September 2019.
A total of six city-based franchise teams will feature in this tournament. These teams are Dublin Chiefs, Belfast Titans, Edinburgh Rocks, Glasgow Giants, Amsterdam Knights and Rotterdam Rhinos.
The 45-year-old Herschelle Gibbs will play the head coach role for Rotterdam Rhinos in the Euro T20 Slam 2019.
Herschelle Gibbs has recently experienced some coaching roles
Last year, he was the head coach of Kuwait national cricket team. Under his tenure, Kuwait have qualified for the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup Asian Regional Finals Qualifier.
Also, at the end of the last year, Gibbs was the head coach of the T10 team Rajputs. In the T10 League 2018, Rajputs finished in the sixth position among the eight teams fight.
In late 2018, Gibbs also applied for the head coach role of Indian women’s national cricket team.
Herschelle Gibbs was one of the superstar players in South African cricket history. He played the international cricket from 1996 to 2010 where he played 90 Tests, 248 ODIs and 23 T20Is. The right-handed batsman scored 6,167 Test runs (average 41.95), 8,094 ODI runs (average 36.13) and 400 T20I runs (average 18.18). Gibbs was the first batsman to hit six sixes in an over in an international cricket match [to Daan van Bunge (the Netherlands) in 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup].
Euro T20 Slam 2019 players’ draft will be organised on 19th July
Meanwhile, a players’ draft for the Euro T20 Slam 2019 has been scheduled on 19th July, and it will take place in London. Around 700 players from 22 countries are likely to take part in this players’ draft.
According to the league guidelines about the playing XI, each team can select at least six local players and a maximum of five overseas players.
Shahid Afridi, Rashid Khan, Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Shane Watson and Eoin Morgan are the six icon players for the Euro T20 Slam 2019. On the other hand, Imran Tahir, Dale Steyn, Babar Azam, JP Duminy, Chris Lynn and Luke Ronchi are the six marquee players of this tournament.
In the meantime, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hasn’t given the clearance yet to the players to participate in the Euro T20 Slam 2019.
