It was the 63rd match of the IPL 2011. After the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) won the toss and decided to bat first, while the opener Paul Valthaty (20) didn’t stay for the longer period, the Australian batsmen, opener Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh dominated that evening.

The wicketkeeper-batsman Gilchrist and Marsh built up the first double-century partnership in the IPL history as they set up the 206 runs partnership for the second wicket before Gilchrist was dismissed on the 19.5 overs. While Gilchrist scored 106 runs off just 55 balls (8 fours and 9 sixes), Marsh scored 79 runs off 49 balls (7 fours and 5 sixes). The KXIP scored 232/2 (20 overs) in the first innings.

In reply, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were bundled out for just 121 runs as the KXIP won that match by 111 runs.
