It was the 46th game of the IPL 2015 between the hosts Mumbai Indians (MI) and the visitors Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After the RCB decided to bat first, they lost their opener Chris Gayle for just 13 runs. However, the hosts had no clue to stop the RCB skipper and another opener Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in that innings.

Kohli and De Villiers created a new record by setting up the 215 runs partnership for the unbroken second wicket, which helped the visitors to score 235/1 (20 overs). While the captain Kohli scored 82 not out off 50 balls (6 fours and 4 sixes), De Villiers played the classic knock of 133 not out off just 59 balls (19 fours and 4 sixes).

In reply, the Mumbai batsmen also fought well but they still suffered the 39-run defeat as they scored 196/7 (20 overs).
