Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers (Royal Challengers Bangalore): 229 for the 2nd wicket against Gujarat Lions (at Bengaluru on 14th May 2016)
It was the 44th match of the IPL 2016 where the hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced the visitors Gujarat Lions (GL). While the visitors sent the hosts to bat first, they managed to dismiss the RCB opener Chris Gayle (6) at very early. However, soon, another RCB opener and captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers faded all of their happiness and set up the record IPL partnership.
Before Kohli lost his wicket, they put the 229 runs partnership for the second wicket. It was also the highest T20 partnership for any wicket at that time. Both Kohli and De Villiers smashed centuries in that innings as Kohli scored 109 runs off just 55 balls (5 fours and 8 sixes) and De Villiers was not out on 129 runs off just 52 balls (10 fours and 12 sixes). Their excellent batting helped the RCB to score 248/3 (20 overs).
Later, the visitors were all out for just 104 runs as the hosts RCB won that match by 144 runs.
