Yuzvendra Chahal has cemented his spot in the limited overs squad for India over the past one year. Since making a mark in the Indian Premier League first, he has been a crucial member of this setup.
Meanwhile, Chahal is yet to make his debut in the longer format of the game. Since making his first-class debut in 2009, he has played only 29 first-class games.

Unsurprisingly, he was left out from the Test series against West Indies starting October 4, despite a good Asia Cup and ODI series against England. But that doesn’t mean Yuzvendra Chahal doesn’t harbour desires to play Test cricket for the country.
“Obviously I want to play Test cricket but at the moment there are players like Kuldeep, Jadeja, and Ashwin who perform consistently. So I have to wait for my turn and whenever I get the chance, I’ll make sure I’m ready because I have to be at my best when competing with legends like them,” Chahal said.
However, Yuzvendra Chahal feels the unofficial Test against South Africa A earlier was a step towards that goal.
“I was playing red ball cricket after two years and obviously when you play after so long you’re out of touch. But it was a good learning experience for more red-ball cricket in the future,” he added.
The tweaker has developed an outstanding partnership with Kuldeep Yadav and the duo taken over the reigns in white ball cricket.
That could very well be the case in the World Cup next year as well. However, he is aware of the competition.
“There is a lot of healthy competition for the spots. You know that if you don’t bowl well there’s always someone ready to take your place. It’s a good thing because it pushes you to work harder,” Yuzvendra Chahal concluded.
