I Will Play Mohammed Shami Over Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Says Sourav Ganguly

The recent form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar has emerged as one of the worries for the Indian cricket team. Known for his swing early in the innings, Bhuvneshwar has not been in best of form since making a comeback from a back issue last year.

It has already seen him not playing any Test match since January 2018 and in ODIs, his form is a worry for Indian team since India have travelled to World Cup with three specialist pacers and all of them will play all the matches.

Bhuvneshwar has had bowled many match-winning spells for India right at the start but considering his form, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has opined that he would Mohammed Shami over Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

“I’ll play Mohammad Shami. He has not only been good in the IPL but has been brilliant throughout the year for India. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has had a dip in form over the last 4-5 months. I’m a fan of Bhuvi but it’s all about temperament and attitude. I believe he will come back stronger,” he told IndiaTV.

Bhuvneshwar also did not have a great IPL. His form has dipped down in recent times. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami has done exceptionally well in the past few months. He has got back his Midas touch and has bowled with great speed, also generating swing and bounce that he is known for.

In 2017/18 season, Shami wasn’t a regular player in the ODI squad and was also dropped from the Test team for Afghanistan match after he failed the yo-yo test. He made a strong comeback in the England series and soon, got his place back in the team.

India tried out likes of Shardul Thakur, Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Umesh Yadav in past one year but Shami leapfrogged them all to join Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the World Cup squad.

He will have a crucial role in team India’s success in the tournament as Bhuvneshwar’s dry run is a bit of worry for India. Also, the fitness of three pacers will also be something that will be scrutinised because India do not have a fourth front-line pacer and they will most likely be playing all the nine league stage matches.
