Just before the beginning of the IPL 2016, two times IPL champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) received great news as their star off-spinner Sunil Narine has been cleared for his bowling action by ICC (International Cricket Council).
Since the middle of the November 2015, Narine has not bowled in the international cricket. His bowling action was found illegal during the ODI series in Sri Lanka at the early November 2015. He was reported by the match officials after the third and last ODI match at Pallekele on 7th November 2015. However, he played two-match T20I series against Sri Lanka after that. On 17th November, Narine gave a test of his bowling at the ICC’s accredited testing centre in Loughborough University. Then he also featured in the beginning of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
But once ICC declared illegal Narine’s bowling action, he didn’t feature in the competitive cricket. After that, Narine worked with his bowling action to improve it. On 28th March 2016, Narine gave another test of his bowling at the Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai.
This time, ICC found legal Narine’s all remodeled deliveries. Now he can play any competitive cricket matches.
It was not the first time in Narine’s entire career where he was suspended for illegal bowling action though it was the first time he was suspended by the ICC for illegal bowling action. At previous, he was suspended by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) before 2014 Champions League final and 2015 IPL due to this reason but finally escaped from that with a “final warning” by BCCI.
Narine is one of the important players for KKR. He played an important role for KKR to win IPL trophies in 2012 and 2014.
