ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Imran Tahir Becomes The Leading Wicket-Taker For South Africa In CWC History
On Sunday (23rd June), the leg-spinner Imran Tahir created a new Cricket World Cup record for his team South Africa during their match against Pakistan. The 40-year-old leg-spinner is now the most wicket-taker for South Africa in Cricket World Cup history.
South Africa and Pakistan both are struggling in the ongoing 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. So, it is a crucial match for both teams who are competing at Lord’s (London). After Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed decided to bat first, they managed a good first innings total of 308/7 (50 overs).
During that innings, South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir delivered the best performance for his team. In that innings, Tahir had the bowling figures of 10-0-41-2. Coming to bowl first time in this match in the 15th over of Pakistan’s innings, Tahir broke the 81-run opening partnership in that over after dismissing Fakhar Zaman (44 runs).
During his fourth over of this match (21st over of that innings), Tahir caught & bowled another opener Imam-ul-Haq (44 runs).
The senior South African leg-spinner has now taken 39 wickets in Cricket World Cup
After dismissing Fakhar Zaman, Tahir became the joint most CWC wicket-taker for South Africa. With that wicket, he levelled the CWC wicket tally of the former South African fast bowler Allan Donald, who bagged 38 CWC wickets.
Later, Tahir becomes the leading CWC wicket-taker for South Africa after dismissing Imam-ul-Haq that helped him to surpass Allan Donald’s 38 CWC wickets tally.
After the end of that Pakistan innings, Tahir has taken 39 wickets in his 20 CWC matches.

At present, Imran Tahir is the eighth most wicket-taker in CWC history
As a spin bowler, Tahir is the second most wicket-taker in Cricket World Cup history. Only the former Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is ahead of Tahir in this list with a whopping 68 CWC wickets. The former New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori is in the third position in this list with 36 CWC wickets.
In overall, Imran Tahir is now in the eighth position to pick up most wickets in Cricket World Cup history.
