- It was the second hat-trick by an Indian bowler in Cricket World Cup history. Chetan Sharma was the first Indian as well as the first bowler to claim a hat-trick in CWC history (against New Zealand at Nagpur on 31st October 1987).
- Mohammed Shami is the fourth Indian bowler to claim an ODI hat-trick. The first three Indian bowlers to achieve this feat were Chetan Sharma (against New Zealand at Nagpur on 31st October 1987), Kapil Dev (against Sri Lanka at Kolkata on 4th January 1991) and Kuldeep Yadav (against Australia at Kolkata on 21st September 2017)
- It was the tenth hat-trick in Cricket World Cup history.
ii) Mohammed Shami had the bowling figures of 9.5-1-40-4.
- It is the second best bowling figures by an Indian bowler against Afghanistan in ODI history. The record is 10-1-30-4 by the left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja at Dhaka on 5th March 2014.
