India claimed a thrashing victory against Windies on Thursday (27th June) at Manchester in the match 34 of the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

After winning the toss, India managed to score 268/7 (50 overs) in the first innings. In reply, Windies was bundled out for just 143 runs (34.2 overs) and India won this match by 125 runs.

  • It is the second lowest completed total for Windies against India in Cricket World Cup history. The lowest record is 140 (52 overs) at Lord’s on 25th June 1983.

i) Indian skipper Virat Kohli scored his fourth successive 50+ score (82, 77, 67 and 72) in the ongoing Cricket World Cup.

  • Virat Kohli is the first Indian captain to score four consecutive 50+ scores in the Cricket World Cup history. In the 1992 CWC, Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin played three consecutive 50+ scores.  

 

ii) It was Virat Kohli’s 94th 50+ score in ODI career.

  • Virat Kohli is the joint second most 50+ scorer for the Indian national cricket team in ODI history. Rahul Dravid also hit 94 times 50+ scores for India while Sachin Tendulkar is on top of them with 145 times 50+ scores for India. 

 

iii) Indian captain Virat Kohli scored 72 runs.

  • It is the highest individual score by an Indian captain against Windies in Cricket World Cup history. The previous record was 61 by Mohammad Azharuddin at Wellington on 10th March 1992.

 

iv) Playing his 417th international innings, Virat Kohli (20,035) completed his 20,000 international runs.

  • Virat Kohli is the fastest batsman to complete 20,000 international runs. The previous record holders were Sachin Tendulkar (India) and Brian Lara (West Indies) as both achieved this feat in 453 international innings.
  • Virat Kohli is the 12th overall batsman and third Indian batsman to complete 20,000 international runs.

 

v) Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, it was India’s 10th successive ODI victory outside India.

  • Virat Kohli is the first Indian captain to win ten consecutive ODI matches outside India.

i) Indian pacer Mohammed Shami had the bowling figures of 6.2-0-16-4.

  • It is the best bowling figures in Cricket World Cup history by an Indian bowler against Windies. The previous record was 7-0-12-3 by Mohinder Amarnath at Lord’s on 25th June 1983.
  • It is the second best ODI bowling figures by an Indian pacer against Windies. The record is 7.3-0-26-5 by Sanjeev Sharma at Sharjah on 16th October 1988.
