ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Tamim Iqbal Is Doubtful For Bangladesh’s Opening Match Of The Tournament
Bangladesh star opening batsman Tamim Iqbal is doubtful for Bangladesh’s opening match of the ongoing Cricket World Cup. He has recently suffered a blow on his left hand during the net practice.
On Friday (31st May), during the net practice, Tamim Iqbal got a hit on his left wrist. Soon he left the field.
According to the team source, Tamim Iqbal will soon go through an x-ray to understand his present condition. Former Bangladesh captain and current national team selector Habibul Bashar has claimed that if Tamim has a fracture, he will miss the opening game of the tournament.
Bashar said, “It’s too early to say anything specific but we will have an x-ray and if there is a fracture, then he won’t be available (for the match against South Africa). But if that is not the case, then we can hope he will be available for the opening game.”
The 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has already started on 30th May. Bangladesh will play their first match of this tournament on 2nd June when they will meet South Africa at The Oval (London).
Bangladesh is dependent on Tamim Iqbal
Tamim Iqbal is a very important player of Bangladesh national cricket team. The 30-year-old left-handed opening batsman Tamim is the most run-scorer for Bangladesh in every international cricket format. His presence is crucial for his team in the ongoing Cricket World Cup. In recent times, he is in excellent form with the bat as he is a very consistent and mature batsman.
Ahead of this Cricket World Cup, Tamim missed out the warm-up match against India at Cardiff due to a slight muscle issue. Their earlier pre-World Cup warm-up match against Pakistan at Cardiff was abandoned due to heavy rain.
There are some fitness issues in the entire Bangladesh World Cup team. Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Mortaza is facing hamstring issue while the left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has the calf problem. Also, Mahmudullah has a shoulder injury.
Meanwhile, the youngster Mohammad Saifuddin is getting fit from a back problem. However, according to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials, Saifuddin can be available for the opening match of the tournament by taking painkillers.
