Mickey Arthur, the head coach of Pakistan national cricket team, is confident about the Pakistan World Cup squad. Recently, he has claimed that the Pakistan side is targeting to qualify for the semi-finals in the upcoming World Cup.
England and Wales are ready to host the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup from 30th May to 14th July. The 1992 Cricket World Cup winners Pakistan will participate in this tournament along with nine other teams. Pakistan will begin their upcoming World Cup journey on 31st May when they will face Windies at Nottingham.
Mickey Arthur has enough confidence in the present Pakistan squad as he believes that they are well prepared for the upcoming World Cup.
According to The Express Tribune, Mickey Arthur said, “We are well prepared and full of confidence. We are targeting a spot in the semi-finals of the event. We have to bring all our capabilities to produce results in our favour.”
In the 15-member Pakistan World Cup squad, the national selectors have added two inexperienced players, opener Abid Ali and pacer Mohammad Hasnain. The Pakistan head coach is happy with their growing performances.
He said, “Abid Ali was perfect and passed his test. He and Hasnain have been in the setup only for three weeks and they have not been subjected to these standards before. Their performances have got better every time they have trained.”
Pakistan head coach spoke about Mohammad Hafeez and Babar Azam
Mickey Arthur has also confirmed that the senior all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez will be available as an off-spinner during the World Cup.
He added, “Hafeez will be available for us during the World Cup as an off-spinner too.”
Pakistan has a high expectation from the present number 7 ranked ODI batsman Babar Azam. Mickey Arthur has mentioned Babar Azam as their best batsman in the current squad.
The Pakistan head coach said, “Our expectations are high from Babar Azam as he is our best batsman in the squad. We have faith in our team who will do well.”
In the last two calendar years, Babar Azam was the leading run-scorer for Pakistan in international cricket.
Pakistan will play quality cricket during the World Cup – Sarfaraz Ahmed
Meanwhile, the Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is also confident about his side. He believes that they will play quality cricket during the upcoming World Cup. The wicketkeeper-batsman feels that they are ready for the tournament in every aspect.
Sarfaraz Ahmed said, “Pakistan will play quality cricket during the World Cup. We are going into the World Cup with all the necessary preparation and are hopeful about doing well during the event. Our batsmen and bowlers, both, are ready to give it their best shot during the event.”
Before the upcoming World Cup, Pakistan will play a five-match ODI series in England from 8th to 19th May.
Many experts believe that Pakistan will begin their upcoming World Cup journey as an underdog. Pakistan captain is happy with this underdog tag for the World Cup.
He added, “Favourites tag has never been ideal for us, so it is good to be underdogs for World Cup.”
Sarfaraz Ahmed has also revealed that he will bat in the top five in England while Shoaib Malik will play at number six batting position.
He said, “We will change our batting order in England. I will bat in the above positions, top five, and Shoaib Malik will come at six.”
Just before the World Cup, Pakistan will play two warm-up matches against Afghanistan (24th May) and Bangladesh (26th May).
