In the rain-interrupted 2007 CWC final against Sri Lanka, Australian opener Adam Gilchrist played an incredible innings and guided his nation to the massive victory. The left-handed opening batsman scored 149 runs off just 104 balls (13 fours and 8 sixes). It is the highest individual score for a batsman in CWC final history. That innings helped Australia to manage the big total of 281/4 in 38 overs.

Later, Sri Lanka managed 215/8 in 36 overs while their revised target was 269 runs in 36 overs. Australia won that match by 53 runs in the D/L method.
