ICC ODI Players’ Rankings: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Strengthen Their Top Positions; KL Rahul Makes Big Leap

After the end of the successful ODI series campaign at home against Australia, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and limited-overs’ vice-captain Rohit Sharma have strengthened the top two positions owing to the ODI batting rankings. Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Steven Smith to name a few have jumped up in the ODI batting rankings.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the latest ODI batting rankings on Monday (20th January). While the No.1-ranked ODI batsman Kohli has now 886 rating points, No.2-ranked ODI batsman Rohit has now 868 rating points. At the end of the recently-concluded home ODI series against Australia, Virat Kohli (183 runs) won the Player of the Series award after finishing as the second most run-scorer. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma (171 runs) finished as the third most run-scorer in that series after winning the Player of the Match award in the last ODI in Bengaluru.
Australian cricketer Steven Smith, who was the leading run-getter in that ODI series went on to score his first ODI century in last three years in Bengaluru, moved up to the fourth position to 23rd spot in ODI batting rankings.
Warner and Finch improved their rankings:
David Warner and Aaron Finch, both the Australian openers, moved up one spot each. In the latest ODI batting rankings, Warner is now placed at the sixth position, and Finch is at the 10th spot. Both of them hit centuries in the first ODI of this series at Mumbai, where Australia beat the hosts by ten wickets.
Among the other Indians, KL Rahul jumped up 21 spots (present ODI batting rankings 50) while Shikhar Dhawan climbed up seven positions (latest ODI batting rankings 15).
Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who was the second most wicket-taker in India vs Australia ODI series, jumped up 20 spots in the ODI bowling rankings. His latest ranking position is 37. While the Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was the most wicket-taker in that series with seven wickets, Zampa took five wickets in the recently-held series. Another Australian bowler, the right-arm pacer Kane Richardson moved up to the 65th position (+12) in ODI bowling rankings. He got four wickets in two matches.
However, two Australian main pacers, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have slightly slipped down in the ODI bowling rankings. Cummins dropped one spot to the fifth position, and Starc moved down to the 10th position (-3).
On the other hand, the Indian left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja climbed up to the 27th position (+2) in the ODI bowling rankings.
