While the International Cricket Council (ICC) is getting to decide on the fate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, there is the media speculation that the tournament is going to be postponed. Australia will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, which has been scheduled between 18th October and 15th November 2020. But the coronavirus pandemic has opened up the doubtful fate of this tournament.
While a total of 16 teams will participate in this tournament, the logistic management is going to face major issues in this crisis. Also, if the tournament follows the actual schedule, the matches are likely to be played in empty stadiums which will significantly affect on ICC’s revenue system.
On Thursday (28th May), the fate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 can be decided during the ICC board meeting. According to some recent media reports, this upcoming tournament is likely to be postponed, and the official decision is likely to come after the forthcoming ICC board meeting.
The ICC has not decided to postpone the T20 World Cup 2020
However, according to Reuters, an ICC spokesperson has claimed that they haven’t taken any postponement decision of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 as the preparations for this tournament is continuously going on.
The spokesperson said, “The ICC has not taken a decision to postpone the T20 World Cup and preparations are ongoing for the event in Australia this year as per plan.
“This is on the agenda for the ICC Board meeting tomorrow and a decision will be taken in due course.”
If the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 gets postponed, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can utilise this window for the IPL 2020, which has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the FTP schedule, India will organise the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in October-November 2021.
