ICC World Cup 2019: Adam Gilchrist Names Australia as Favourites for the Title
Renowned wicketkeeper-batsman from Australia Adam Gilchrist feels the Kangaroos are potent enough to retain ICC World Cup 2019 title. Well, the campaign will begin on May 30 in London in England and Wales.
So far, the Aaron Finch-led Australia has bagged five coveted World Cup titles until 2015. Previously, Australia routed arch-rivals New Zealand by seven wickets at the MCG. Out of five, Gilchrist has partaken in three Australian World Cup-winning teams.
Thus, the southpaw believes Australia is a balanced unit. He added Kangaroos is the beat during the marquee event.
“The fact that we won five doesn’t guarantee these guys anything. It’s more just the recent results, the momentum that’s been built up and the names that are on the paper. It’s a very, very strong, well-balanced team,” Gilchrist elaborated.
The 47-year-old star Gilchrist puts forth his prediction that who are going to lift the silverware in the United Kingdom (UK). He maintained Australia are the firm favourites given their current form in the day-long format.
Australia are favourites for the ICC World Cup 2019:
Recently, Australia has annihilated Pakistan 5-0 after thumping 3-2 series win over India.
“Australia. Certainly, on paper, they’re as competitive as anyone with the names that are there now. And the momentum they built up in the one-day format once they left Australian shores, Gilchrist told Fox Sports.
Australia has been a competitive team:
Australia’s domination is described by eight consecutive victories in the 50-over format.
The elegant batsman of his time Gilchrist believes teams will be wary of Australia, which he believes is one of the reasons that Australia has dominated the rest of the World.
“I always thought once they got their full squad at full strength they were always going to be as competitive as anyone,” Gilchrist stated.
“Obviously there’s confidence there. I just like what I’m seeing and five out of 12 World Cups have come this way so I can’t see any reason why we can’t win another one,” Gilchrist added.
Earlier, in 2018, Australia has faced the heat when ball-tampering sag brought disgrace to the country. The Kangaroos were than thrashed by India, England and South Africa.
“At the start of last Australia summer, you would have said they were a long way off but there was always a lot to happen between then and the start of the World Cup,” Gilchrist inferred.
Australia will face Afghanistan on June 1st at the Bristol County Ground.
