ICC World Cup 2019: Devasted Not To Get Over The Line – Carlos Brathwaite
It was an onslaught from Carlos Brathwaite on the other night against New Zealand team. He almost pulled out an unthinkable for his side with his blistering knock. But, unfortunately, he missed it with just a few inches, which would have been a fairytale finish for Windies and Carlos.
3 years after breaking the hearts of quite a few English fans by hitting 4 sixes in the World T20 final against England at Eden Gardens, Brathwaite was at the receiving end in West Indies’ World Cup 2019 match at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Carlos Brathwaite came up with a single-handed effort and took West Indies close to New Zealand’s total of 291 in their crunch World Cup 2019 match. West Indies were reeling at 164 for 7 after a middle-order failure but Brathwaite, who had picked up 2 wickets earlier on Saturday, wasn’t willing to give up.
A bittersweet for me – Carlos Brathwaite
The demolition job was completed with a stunning 25-run attack on Matt Henry in the 48th over, the balance of the game now miraculously tilted in his favour with eight runs required off the two overs.
The feeling of awe was on both sides. However, as things turned out he was caught by Trent Boult at deep mid-on going for glory with seven balls remaining.
“Obviously bittersweet. For me personally, for my confidence,” Brathwaite told reporters in the mixed zone. “As a result of all the hard work I’ve been putting in it’s finally good that it comes to fruition.”
”Obviously devastated not to get over the line, but also giving thanks for the performance. Even getting the team into the position we got into before I got out,” said Brathwaite, who also took two wickets with his pace bowling.
However, Carlos Brathwaite offered a reminder of his astonishing firepower with a knock of 101 off 82 balls that almost delivered one of the greatest World Cup comebacks.
