West Indies recalled experienced pace bowler Ravi Rampaul to the team for the first time in six years as the defending champions on Thursday named their squad for the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman in October-November.

Ravi Rampaul, a member of the 2012 World Cup-winning squad, played his last T20 match against Sri Lanka in 2015 and returns to bolster a solid-looking lineup that will look to deliver an unprecedented third title for a single team. All-rounder Roston Chase earned his maiden call-up to the T20I squad.

England’s Biggest Strength Is The Consistency, Says Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan says his team is “gathering momentum nicely” as the last edition’s runners-up hope to improve on their showing in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Moved out of India due to the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the mega event will be held in the UAE and Oman from October 17 to November 14.

Eoin Morgan: England’s Biggest Strength Is The Consistency

EoinMorgan, whose team won the last edition of the tournament in 2016, has stressed the importance of continuing to play in the manner they have in the last two years.

“I think our biggest strength is the consistency with which we’ve performed at over the last two years. I think in T20 cricket because the game can change quite quickly and there’s a huge group of talented teams within our group, I think every game is important to us,” said Morgan during a chat with the ICC on Friday.

The 34-year-old skipper feels adapting to the conditions in the UAE, where England has not played a T20 International since 2015, will be one of the key factors for them in the tournament.

“I think we’re gathering momentum nicely, and the important side to that from our perspective is that we’re continuously trying to get better and learn as we go on, simply because the tournament is held away from home. We’re really looking forward to it.”

England will enter the upcoming men’s ICC T20 World Cup as one of the favourites to lift the trophy and limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan believes that his team’s biggest strength is consistency.

As the rest of the world marveled at a West Indian World Cup win against all the odds in 2016, England responded to their heart-breaking defeat by forming an all-conquering white ball outfit. Claiming the Cricket World Cup in 2019 at home, England can complete a rare double, all while righting the wrongs of that night in Kolkata.

Eoin Morgan has confirmed his participation in the second leg of the Indian Premier League, which was postponed earlier this year after 29 games due to a spate of Covid-19 cases in the camps of four different teams across two cities. The rescheduled season will commence in the UAE in September, where the remaining 31 games will be played across three venues (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah).

England Finished Runners Up As West Indies Won The 2016 T20I World Cup The Last Time T20I WC Was Held

In 2016, England finished runners-up as Carlos Brathwaite smashed four consecutive sixes off Ben Stokes in a dramatic last over of the final to take the West Indies to a title triumph.

“The evolution of T20 cricket and the role it’s played in our great game is hugely significant for the development of the game and the popularity of the game. It’s huge. It’s been a long time coming. We haven’t had one since 2016,” said Eoin Morgan.

South Africa and Australia join England and the West Indies in Group 1 of the Super 12s along with the two yet-to-be-determined qualifiers from Round 1 for this year’s men’s T20 World Cup. England will open their campaign in the 2021 edition of the tournament against the West Indies in Abu Dhabi on October 23.

England will play arch-rivals Australia on October 30 at Dubai International Stadium and will face South Africa in Sharjah on November 6. Incidentally, the 2021 men’s T20 World Cup is slated to kick off from October 17 in the UAE two days after the Indian Premier League (IPL) final.

England Will Be Feared By All Other Teams In 2021 T20I World Cup: Paul Collingwood

Paul Collingwood, England’s assistant coach said that England, the No 1 ranked T20I side in the world, has been in terrific form in the last 4 years and therefore they will be feared by all the other teams during the T20 World Cup.

Paul Collingwood feels that his team is likely to be feared by a lot of teams going into the T20 World Cup because of the kind of cricket that the team is playing at the moment.

Paul Collingwood: England Is Prepared For T20I World Cup And Will Be Feared By Opposition Teams

England is currently the No 1 ranked T20I side in the world and is levelled 2-2 with India in a five-match series in Ahmedabad, with the decider to be played on Saturday. Paul Collingwood said that England has multiple match-winners and that will help them in their T20 World Cup campaign.

“Going into this World Cup I think we will be feared by a lot of teams because of our white-ball form for the past four years. We’ve got a lot of match winners from one to 11, who can win games from their own bat. Totally different teams from 2010 to now, but I don’t think we could be in a better place. The team in 2010 was a team that came together right at the last moment, and we took a few risks, gambles on selection.”

“We knew what kind of cricket we wanted to play but it hadn’t been drilled into us over a long period of time like this team has. I think this team is better prepared,” Collingwood told British media on the eve of their T20I series-decider against India.

England won their only T20 World Cup title under Paul Collingwood’s captaincy in 2010. The likes of Ravi Bopara, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann, Luke Wright, and Eoin Morgan played in that tournament. In the final, England beat Australia by 7 wickets chasing 148.

Paul Collingwood: Never Feel One Wins World Cup By Being Conservative

Paul Collingwood further said that the success mantra of their white-ball teams lies in playing an aggressive brand of cricket. England is one of the favourites to win the 2021 T20I World Cup being the No. 1 ranked T20I team.

“I never feel you win World Cups, big tournaments by being conservative. You’ve got to be ahead of the game. This team has done that over the past four years, which drilled into being aggressive. You’ve got to have a lot of bravery to do it in the big games. Tomorrow’s (Saturday’s 5th T20I against India) another example. Hopefully, we can go out there and play our usual aggressive cricket and of course adapt to the conditions.

“That’s how they want to play and that’s how you put teams under pressure whether you’re playing the first game or in the final. That is our mantra,” he added.

This time in 2021 they have the likes of Eoin Morgan (captain), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, and Mark Wood in their squad which makes it an enviable squad.

The last time the T20 World Cup was played in 2016, England just missed out on their opportunity to win their second title. Carlos Braithwaite broke the hearts of all English fans as Ben Stokes wasn’t able to keep his nerve. However, five years since then, Ben Stokes has won a World Cup for England(2019 50 overs World Cup) and his team has become one of the favourites to take home the 2021 title.

T20I World Cup: Pakistan Cricket Board’s Demand For Issuance Of Visas Witness Positive Progress

T20I World Cup will be staged in October November 2021. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants visa guarantees not only for cricketers and supports staff but also for journalists and fans ahead of the T20 World Cup in October-November this year.

Speaking to the media recently, PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani had said that if written assurance was not given, the board would have the right to demand ICC to transfer the mega event to UAE.

T20I World Cup: Possibilities Of Issuance Of Visas Have Increased

Talking to an Indian newspaper on Sunday, the PCB Chairman said that the issuance of visas under members’ agreement is the responsibility of the host board. Following the letter written by the ICC in this regard, the response from the BCCI is now awaited. The Indian board always justifies not getting permission from its government.

According to reports in the Indian media, positive progress is being made in this regard. Political tensions between the two countries have eased since the recent ceasefire agreement on the border, as a result, the possibilities of issuance of visas have increased.

BCCI Official: Issuance Of Visas At Discretion Of Government

A BCCI official said since the issuance of visas was at the discretion of the government, there is no issue if permission is obtained. On the other hand, one must ensure that because of the aftermath of the corona epidemic which is extraordinary circumstances, as in this situation no country can affirm spectator visas.

The last time the Pakistan team played on Indian soil was in the T20 championship in March 2016, two months after the Pathankot attack. On that occasion, the Home Ministry gave multi-city visas to Pakistani fans who had tickets for the matches.

Before that, India granted visas to Pakistani fans for the 2011 World Cup semi-final at Mohali. The then Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani also came to Mohali and watched the match with then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The last time the two countries played a Test series was in 2007 in India, which India won.

The 2019 World Cup in England was when the two teams last met at a neutral venue. India won that match by 89 runs. Pakistan and India’s last bilateral ties at either of the 2 countries were 2 T20Is and 3 ODIs in India way back in 2012. Pakistan has won more ODI and Test matches but India has the upper hand in T20Is. India is also undefeated at both 50 overs and T20I World Cups.

The last time T20I World Cup was staged was 5 years ago in 2016 which was won by West Indies. Recently retired Marlon Samuels of West Indies scored an unbeaten 85. But Carlos Braithwaite hit 4 sixes in the final over of Ben Stokes and scored unbeaten 34 off only 10 balls snatching away win from jaws of defeat against England.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that the next T20I World Cup will be held in India as per original plans.

2016 T20 World Cup: Top 5 Batsmen With Highest Strike-Rate In An Innings

While T20 cricket is a faster game, the team management prefers these batsmen more who can maintain at least 100+ strike-rate for most of the times. In the 2016 T20 World Cup (officially known as the ICC World T20 2016), we experienced some good firing batting with the higher strike-rates.

During the 2016 T20 World Cup, some batsmen even managed to achieve the strike-rate of 200+, even maintained the 250+ strike-rates till the end.

Here we are talking about the top five batsmen with the highest strike-rate in an innings in the 2016 T20 World Cup (at least scored 25 runs in an innings)

Mohammad Shahzad (Afghanistan) – 231.57 (against South Africa at Mumbai on 20th March 2016)

Mohammad Shahzad (Image Credit: Twitter)

It was the 20th match of the 2016 T20 World Cup (in the Super 10 Stage). Chasing down the 210 runs target, which was set up by South Africa, Afghanistan opener Mohammad Shahzad inspired the team for the strong fight back with his aggressive batting.

The right-handed batsman scored 44 runs off just 19 balls with the strike-rate of 231.57. Before getting out, Shahzad hit 3 fours and 5 sixes. However, Afghanistan failed to chase that big target as they were bowled out for 172 runs (20 overs).

Five Unsold Players Who Can Still Play In The IPL 2020

Every year the IPL auctions arrive with many surprises and create a hype which isn’t short of any excitement. The latest IPL auctions too generated a lot of excitement and drama, but it threw a lot more surprises in terms of players who were sold and who went unsold.

Franchisees and the team management also assess the team combinations they need and the kind of bench strength they need to have in order to be on par with the other teams.

There were a few surprises when it comes to the players who were in the limelight but couldn’t make the cut by any Franchisees. In the 2019 auction, there were some well-established player’s who might consider themselves unlucky but still, they can hope to impress the franchisees and the team management.

In this article, we have picked up a list of 5 players who might still feature in the event or it could be said that they might be considered as a backup for the tournament.

# 1 Carlos Braithwaite

Brathwaite, World Cup 2019, West Indies, Australia,
Twitter.

The burly West Indian, Carlos Brathwaite caught everyone’s eye when he smoked Ben Stokes for four sixes in the final over of the final of the World T20 in Kolkata in 2016. The 31-year-old can hit the ball a long way with his power and timing. Braithwaite can change the outcome of a game with his destructive batting.
