ICC World Cup 2019: Harbhajan Singh Backs Ravindra Jadeja To Play Against Sri Lanka
Former Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh wants to see all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja included in India’s semi-final line-up to add flexibility to the team’s faltering middle-order batting. For now, he wants Ravindra Jadeja to play in the game against Sri Lanka to prove his mettle.
Virat Kohli’s India has already booked their spot in the final four ahead of their last league game against Sri Lanka on Saturday. But the team’s batsmen have been criticised for losing momentum after the fall of their powerful top-order, which includes the in-form opener, Rohit Sharma and Kohli.
Harbhajan Singh suggested that Jadeja, who is yet to feature at the World Cup, would be a useful addition with his left-arm spin and powerful batting. Harbhajan Singh pointed out that Jadeja can not only give captain Virat Kohli a few overs in the middle but that he is a “very, very handy” batsman at the death.
Ravindra Jadeja gives you options – Harbhajan Singh
Further, Harbhajan Singh believes that Ravindra Jadeja is a massive help with the ball and a handy option with the bat. Having been the teammates at CSK, Harbhajan Singh feels that Jadeja will be very helpful for Virat Kohli during crunch moments.
Speaking to India Today, Harbhajan said: “Would like to see Ravindra Jadeja get a game against Sri Lanka or from there onwards. He gives you options – he can bowl 6, 7 or 8 overs. Imagine if anyone has a bad day with the ball, Jadeja will not just give you 6 or 7 overs but he is a very, very handy batsman in the later part of the game.”
Ravindra Jadeja has been part of India’s 15-man squad for World Cup 2019 but the Saurashtra star player is yet to get a game in England. Jadeja has often been used as a substitute fielder, yet, gave his best. Surprisingly, he has got a number of catches than any other in the current playing XI.
India takes on Sri Lanka in Leeds on Saturday in their final group-stage match. India will be hoping to collect 2 points and keep their chances of topping the table alive. Australia, with 14 points from 8 matches, are a point ahead of 2nd-placed India on the 10-team table.
