Bangladesh Cricket team opener Soumya Sarkar has returned to form ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales. Sarkar’s return to form will be a massive advantage for the Bangladesh side as the southpaw became the first batsmen from his country to register a List A double-hundred. Behind Soumya Sarkar’s double-century, former India batsman Wasim Jaffer played a crucial role.
Meanwhile, Soumya Sarkar was going through a poor run, and his place in the World Cup place was in jeopardy. But with consecutive centuries, Sarkar has regained his confidence and will look to continue his form in the World Cup. Moreover, Soumya’s impressive form in Dhaka Premier League has guided his domestic side Abahani Ltd to the title. Wasim Jaffer, who featured for Abahani as an overseas recruit played a crucial role behind Soumya Sarkar’s return to form.
Jaffer held special batting session with Sarkar helping him with technical and mental problems. The batting prodigy has noticed Soumya Sarkar from close quarters before seeking permission from the coach to work with the talented batsman. Wasim Jaffer admitted that he mainly focused on his mental side which has hit a rock bottom because of a slump in form.
“For the last couple of matches, I am looking at him closely from the sidelines. I noticed a few things about his batting and then I asked the coach if I can have a look at him before the Rupganj game,” Jaffer told Cricbuzz. “I worked out on some of his technical things but most importantly I tried to work out on the mental side of his batting. When you are not scoring runs, a lot of things go around your mind and it prevents you from taking a positive approach because you are not thinking in the right process all the time,” he added.
These knocks will help Sarkar: Jaffer
Furthermore, Wasim Jaffer heaped praise on Soumya Sarkar saying that the Bangladeshi batsman has diligently tried to implement his suggestions. The veteran cricketer also added that these centuries will help Sarkar’s confidence ahead of the showpiece event.
“The good thing is that whatever I told him he tried to implement in the middle and on a good batting track, he made the most out of it. I think these two centuries will do a world of good for him ahead of the World Cup,” he concluded.
