ICC World Cup 2019: I Don’t Know The Final 15-Man Squad – Eoin Morgan
The Eoin Morgan-led England and Wales Cricket Board got a settled squad in the ODI format with all the departments being covered with the eligible players. The home conditions will also put them as one of the favourites to win the tournament. But, they are being troubled with one main headache in the form of selection.
Meanwhile, the England skipper Eoin Morgan has admitted that it will be a tough job to select the final 15 for the upcoming World Cup beginning at the end of this month.
After the final match of the five-ODI series against Pakistan which England won by 54 runs, Morgan said the continuous improvement in performance by the players has made the selection meeting extremely difficult.
Everyone will play a role – Eoin Morgan
Last month, England announced their provisional 15-member squad excluding the likes of Jofra Archer, James Vince and Chris Jordan. While experts believe Archer should be in England’s World Cup squad, opener Vince is more or less certainty in the final 15 as a replacement of Alex Hales who has slapped with a 21-day ban due to recreational drug use.
“I don’t know the 15,” England captain Morgan told Sky Sports after drubbing Pakistan 4-0 in the five-match ODI series. Every one of these guys should be proud of what we’ve achieved so far.”
”The continuous improvement of performances makes the selection meeting extremely difficult. “But every single member of the 17-man squad here will play some role, due to the nature of injuries and illness and call-ups,” he added.
The last day to finalize the 15-member for the squad for World Cup 2019 is May 23. England had selected 17 players for the Pakistan series and now they will have to make a tough call between Tom Curran and Jofra Archer in deciding the final 15 for World Cup.
England will start their World Cup campaign against South Africa on May 30 at The Oval. Before that, they will also play two warm-up matches against Australia and Afghanistan.
