England opener Jason Roy, who recently picked an injury amid the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019, has taken throwdowns in the nets in Headingley which eventually could put him in trouble as England medical staff has already warned him to take a walk.
The move from explosive opener Roy his left the England staff upset.
Roy, who also has a hundred to his name at the ongoing World Cup, swung the bat in nets. Earlier, during the game against the Windies, Roy has suffered a hamstring tear which further saw him walking off the ground against the Caribbean team.
Notably, the medics had made it clear that Roy should avoid walking briskly. At the moment, Roy is keen to prove his fitness with England taking on Sri Lanka on June 21.
James Vince in the playing XI replaces Roy. Further, he opened innings with Jonny Bairstow against Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Roy is hopeful of finding his place during the Three Lions crucial tie against India on June 30.
However, England all-rounder Moeen Ali has backed Vince to prove his credentials following a massive opportunity.
Vince, who represents Hampshire, has gone through a lot. Ali added the top-order batsmen knew he’s a couple of opportunities to represent England.
“It’s been very difficult for him. I think as he’s always come in knowing he’s probably not going to be there for longer than two games, maybe even one sometimes. But depending on Jason’s injury, I’d probably just say to him, not the cliche of express yourself, but just go out like you’re going to play all the games and make the most of it,” Express Sunday quoted Ali as saying.
Ali remarked that Vince is a good player and he needs to enjoy what he has been introduced for. He added runs would come if he thinks on the other lines instead lingering on it’s a test for him.
“You’re playing a World Cup in England, probably never going to do it again – or we don’t know. But, you know, just enjoy yourself as much as you can more than anything. Don’t get too caught up in trying to making sure you have to score a hundred or you have to score runs. They will come. He’s such a good player that those runs will definitely come if he just almost enjoys it rather than thinking it’s always a test,” Ali concluded.
In the previous game, skipper Eoin Morgan has made a strong comeback following an injury. The southpaw has slammed 71-ball 148 to criticise a world record of most sixes (17) in ODI innings.
Currently, England is sitting third on ICC World Cup 2019 points table. They have won four games in five matches. The only loss came against Pakistan by 14 runs.
