ICC World Cup 2019: Jason Roy Suffers Hamstring Tear, Will Miss Next 2 Games
Well, injuries are a part and parcel of the game. But, the time and impact of the injury is something, which hurts the certain individual or sometimes, even the whole team. The latest team to suffer from the injury concern is England, as they lost Jason Roy for a couple of games or even more.
Jason Roy pulled up his hamstring after chasing the ball over the covers during the eighth over of the match. The 28-year-old walked off and, soon, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed he needed further assessment after “feeling tightness”.
Jason Roy had a tear:
The latest scans prove that the English opener has got a Hamstring tear. It made him ruled out for the next couple of games, which are against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka on Tuesday and Friday of this week respectively.
An MRI scan on Saturday confirmed a tear. He will remain with the squad but has officially been ruled out for England’s next two matches against Afghanistan (Tuesday) and Sri Lanka (Friday).
There was some positive news for Eoin Morgan, who also left the field against the West Indies. The captain had a back spasm which has since settled down after treatment. He will be monitored over the next 24 hours but has not yet been ruled out of the match against Afghanistan.
Jason Roy has been in cracking form and has been giving solid starts to England on a consistent basis. In his last 8 ODI knocks, Roy has three tons and as many half-centuries under his belt and the Surrey star has become a crucial part of England’s squad.
England has James Vince as a back-up opener in their squad and will bank on the 28-year-old to cement his credentials in ODI cricket. Vince, till now, has played 10 ODI matches and averages a mere 28.12.
Coming to Eoin Morgan, the likelihood is that he will hand over the captaincy to Jos Buttler for Tuesday’s game while targeting a return against Sri Lanka.
