ICC World Cup 2019: Loss Will Hurt But We Are Ready For Australia’s Clash – Jos Buttler

Who would have expected that Sri Lanka would dismantle a team like England, especially, after such a poor show with the bat? The legendary Lasith Malinga showed why he is still the master with the ball while the other Lankan players gave him perfect support to make things fall in place. Meanwhile, England’s Jos Buttler speaks on the tough loss.
England lacked their usual intensity with the bat as they failed to chase down what appeared to be a relatively modest target of 233 in the ICC World Cup game against Sri Lanka at Headingley on Friday. They failed collectively as the unit, which gave them a skip of the heartbeat in the tournament.
We lacked energy – Jos Buttler
Speaking of the loss, Jos Buttler admitted that the England team lacked the intensity with the bat. Further, he went on to add saying that they were passive in their chase, which hasn’t been the case for quite a few months now.
“We played poorly with the bat. I think we lacked energy. That doesn’t mean trying to hit fours and sixes, it means showing the intensity and trying to put pressure on the bowlers,” said Buttler.
“Early wickets can set teams back, as it did for Sri Lanka when we took early wickets, but in terms of the mindset, we were not at our best. I thought we were a bit passive. We haven’t been like that for a long time so that is the most frustrating part of the game,” the England wicketkeeper added.
On Lasith Malinga:
Further, Jos Buttler hailed Lasith Malinga, who delivered the goods for Sri Lanka. He explained that the wicket will always be around the corner when a bowler like Lasith Malinga enters into the action.
“He is an incredibly skilful bowler. The stumps are always in play with his release point and it is generally going to be pretty close if he hits your pads. We didn’t count him as well as we could,” Jos Buttler said.
Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for the England team. Most probably, they would go with their full intensity to the game against Australia.
