The Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara is the latest cricketer to speak on the World Cup chances of the Indian National Cricket Team. The experienced cricketer has pointed out that India needs to be wary of flat tracks, which won’t offer any turn for the spinners.
India will enter into the tournament as one of the favourites to win the cup. The recent stats and the strength of the core will certainly make them a stronger opponent for the other teams in the tournament. Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara points out an area to work out by the team.
Important to pick wickets – Cheteshwar Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara warns India to have a look after their spin department, especially, when the pitch won’t offer any spin. The spin department Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have always been sensational for the team, but, Pujara feels that the flat pitches might see India in risk.
Further, he also highlighted the importance of taking wickets in the ODI format of the game. Cheteshwar Pujara feels that India would end up conceding too many runs if the team doesn’t fold out the opposition in the stipulated overs.
“India have a balanced squad but the only concern for India is the lack of spin which will not help our spinners so India will have to figure out a way to pick wickets. It is important to pick wickets and get teams all out, especially in this format, because if you don’t start picking wickets ultimately you will concede too many runs. So I think our bowling will be the key when we play on flat wickets,” Pujara said at the CEAT awards in Mumbai.
On India vs Pakistan game:
Speaking of the rival clash, the flamboyant batsman quoted that they need to look after the game between India and Pakistan as just a normal game. He wants the team to look after every clash equally important, as winning other games are important to win the trophy.
“The match against Pakistan is important but it is also important that we do not give too much attention to only one game. India need to win most of their games in order to keep qualifying for the next round,”Cheteshwar Pujara said.
All in all, as Cheteshwar Pujara said, the team balance of the Indian National Cricket Team has been quite good. The only area that India should work on is their playing XI and combination for each game, as the tournament demands the upgraded skills at every moment.
