ICC World Cup 2019: Twitter Lauds Dominant England In West Indies Win
Jun 15, 2019 at 10:40 AM
The hosts England were on top on Saturday against West Indies at The Rose Bowl. Having won the toss, Eoin Morgan asked West Indies to bat first.
The English were on top from the start. They picked out dangerous Evin Lewis in the third over. However, Chris Gayle looked sharp from the start. Just when the southpaw was looking dangerous, Liam Plunkett gave the breakthrough. Shai Hope soon followed the southpaw to the pavilion.
But Nicholas Pooran along with Shimron Hetmyer played some brilliant cricket. The duo stitched 89 run partnership for the fourth wicket. However, the West Indies lower order did not sustain the pressure from English bowling.
They eventually ended with a mere 212 on the board. Mark Wood and Jofra Archer were the pick of the bowlers. Both of them managed three wickets each as England produced a dominating bowling display.
On the other hand, England faced serious injury crisis with both Jason Roy and Eoin Morgan suffered injuries during West Indies batting. In the absence of Jason Roy, Joe Root opened the innings alongside Joe Root.
England Openers Rampant in the chase
Both Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow took the attack to West Indies bowlers from the start. They managed an impressive 95 run partnership in just 88 balls for the opening wicket. Jonny Bairstow was dismissed for 45. Much to the surprise of everyone, Chris Woakes was sent at number three.
The bowling all rounder managed a well made 40 in just 54 balls on the day. He complimented Joe Root well as the duo forged a century partnership for the second wicket. Meanwhile, Joe Root scored his second hundred of this world cup. Ben Stokes did the finishing duties on a completely perfect day for England.

WI are perfectly suited for T20s where Russell can hammer 50 off 15 and win you a game. Individual brilliance. ODI cricket demands a different tempo to batting. Make no mistake, they will cause upsets but semis? They need a lot of things to go their way #ENGvWI

England register their 6th win in a row against West Indies in World Cups. They have lost to WI only once in the tournament history – which was the final in 1979. #EngvWI #CWC19

Felt @windiescricket could of batted with maturity, @Russell12A looks good naturally but you got to play for the team also. @henrygayle and Hetmyer should've feasted on their starts. Thumbs up to @nicholas_47 #CWC19 #ENGvWI
