ICC World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli Feels Dinesh Karthik Made it to the Squad Solely on ‘Experience’
Ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019, Team India skipper Virat Kohli reiterated that back-up wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has had made it to Team India’s World Cup-bound squad solely based on experience. The top-order batsman maintained Karthik has been handy in the crunch situations of the game. So, it is further a strong indication of giving preference to Tamil Nadu-based cricketer over immensely talented Rishabh Pant.
Well, MS Dhoni is an indispensable part of Team India. The stalwart is serving as the first-choice wicket-keeper for India at the twelfth edition of the ODI showpiece in England and Wales. The mega ICC event will commence from May 30 at Kennington Oval in London when hosts England will battle with South Africa in the curtain raiser.
Here it becomes an important factor to point out that teams could be changed players until May 23. It is the deadline which ICC has set for any change in the 15-man squad they teams have had announced, of late.
Dinesh Karthik handles the pressure well:
Kohli hinted everyone has agreed upon the decision. In between, Karthik has exhibited himself well in dicey situations of the game.
However, while leading Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Karthik has struggled on most of the occasions. In 13 matches, Karthik amassed 253 runs at an average of 31.62.
“In pressure situations, he’s shown composure. It was something that everybody on board was convinced about. So, it was the overall exposure to a tournament of this magnitude that was taken into primary consideration,” Kohli told Times of India.
Karthik claims a golden chance:
While boasting about Karthik’s experience, Kohli believes he could be equally good behind the stumps if MS Dhoni misses out due to unavoidable circumstances of the game.

“He has the experience. If, god forbid, something happens to MS (Dhoni), Karthik can be immensely valuable behind the wickets. As a finisher, he’s done well,” added Kohli.
Karthik made his entry in the Indian team way back in 2004. Also, he has got sporadic chances in the national team.
Moreover, the right-handed batsman has managed to score 1,738 runs in 91 ODI at an average of 31. He has nine half-centuries to his name in the day-long cricket.
