On Thursday, West Indies clinched a memorable victory against Pakistan on the day 5 of the third and final Test of the series at Sharjah. After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first. Pakistan scored 281 runs in the first innings while West Indies managed to score 337 in their first innings despite their top order falling early.
From 56-runs behind and an early top order collapse, Pakistan felt pressure in their second innings. Finally, they were bowled out for 208 and put a 153-run target in the front of the West Indies. Despite the top order early collapse, West Indies secured a memorable 5-wicket victory through an impressive unbeaten 87-runs partnership for the 6th wicket between Kraigg Brathwaite and Shane Dowrich.
However, Pakistan had already secured the Test series as they won the 3-match Test series by 2-1 despite this defeat.

- West Indian opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite played impressively in this Test. In the first innings, he scored unbeaten 142 runs as he became 5th West Indian batsman to carry his bat through a Test innings.
Also, Brathwaite’s 142* was the highest individual Test score (in an innings) by a West Indian opening batsman against Pakistan outside West Indies. Also it (142*) was the highest individual Test score (in an innings) by a West Indian batsman against Pakistan at a neutral venue.
- Batting second, West Indies earned an important 56-runs lead over Pakistan. In an away Test match (excluding Bangladesh) since 2006, it was the first time that West Indies took a first innings lead after batting second.
- West Indian captain Jason Holder bowled very impressively during Pakistan’s second innings in this match. Holder’s final bowling figures during Pakistan’s second innings were 17.3-5-30-5. It was the best bowling figure by a West Indian pacer in a Test innings against Pakistan outside West Indies.
On the other hand, this bowling figures (5/30) were also the second best bowling figures by a West Indian captain in a Test innings against Pakistan. The best bowling figure by a West Indian captain in a Test innings against Pakistan was 5/29 by Darren Sammy at Providence on 12th may 2011.
- Like the first innings, West Indian opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite also remained unbeaten in the second innings. Brathwaite scored another important unbeaten 60 during West Indies’ second innings which helped his team to achieve a memorable victory. Brathwaite became the first ever opening batsman to remain unbeaten in the both innings of a Test match.
- At the end of this Test match, West Indies clinched an impressive 5-wicket victory over Pakistan. It was West Indies’ first away Test victory against a side ranked above them since 2007. West Indies’ previous away Test victory against a side ranked above them was against South Africa (by 128 runs) at Port Elizabeth in the 2007 Boxing Day Test.
- Kraigg Brathwaite was awarded Man of the Match for his impressive performance with the bat. It was his 4th Man of the Match award in Test which is the most by any West Indian player in last 5 years.
