Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa has made a huge prediction on the new Indian opening pair Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal following their heroics in the 4th T20 International against West Indies and believes that the youngsters have got potential to become as great as Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly in International Cricket.
Both Indian openers scored a brilliant half-century for India to chase down the target in 17 overs, while the Windies bowlers found no answers to the batting exploits of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. They formed a record-opening partnership of 165 runs to keep the Hardik Pandya led-side alive in the 5-match series.
Speaking on the Jiocinema, Robin Uthappa hailed the young Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill for their batting in the 4th T20 match against West Indies and reckons that both the batters have the ability to take on the bowlers and believes that they can become dangerous opening pair for India and compared them with the likes of legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
“Everyone who plays for India is equally capable and has equal ability but the way Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill bat in tandem; they can bat for each other as well and they need to find that space. If they do, they are going to be a very dangerous pair for India in years to come. It will be a hot pair and they can be something as great as a Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly opening the batting,” he said.
“They need to figure a few things out and if they do, they will do great things for India,” Robin Uthappa added.
Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly were the core of India’s batting line-up for a long time in International cricket as they formed many formidable and match-winning partnerships for the Indian team in a long time. Both the openers give the team a good start and stability at the top in ODI and Test Cricket and the new Indian opening pair will look to take cue from the Indian legends to do well for the team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill will look to continue their fine form going into the final and the deciding T20 against the West Indies on Sunday, while West Indies will look to make a comeback to win a bilateral series against India after 17 long years.
