On Friday (15th November), the hosts India dominated the day two of the first Test against Bangladesh at Holkar Stadium (Indore). They are now looking for the giant first innings total.

The hosts started the day two on their overnight score of 86/1. The hosts added 407 runs on their scoreboard and finished the day on 493/6 with the lead of 343 runs.

  • It is India’s third most runs in a day of the Test cricket history. Their top two records are 443/1 against Sri Lanka on day two of the Mumbai (Brabourne Stadium) Test in December 2009 and 417/2 against Sri Lanka on day one of the Kanpur Test in November 2009.

i) Mayank Agarwal took 12 innings to hit his first two Test double-centuries.

  • Mayank Agarwal became the second-fastest batsman to hit two double centuries in Test career. Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli took only five innings to hit his two Test double-centuries.

ii) Opener Mayank Agarwal scored 243 runs.

  • It is the highest individual score in a Test innings by an opener against Bangladesh. The previous record was 232 by Graeme Smith (South Africa) at Chattogram in February 2008.
  • It is the second-highest individual score in a Test innings by an Indian batsman against Bangladesh. The record is 248 not out by Sachin Tendulkar at Dhaka in December 2004.

ii) Mayank Agarwal hit eight sixes.

  • It is the joint-most sixes for an Indian batsman in a Test innings. Navjot Singh Sindhu was the only other batsman in this list to hit eight sixes in a Test innings (against Sri Lanka at Lucknow in January 1994).
