Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir has claimed that Virat Kohli-led Indian team would be a serious challenge to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy scheduled later this year. He has entrusted in India’s pacer bowling for guiding the team to defend the trophy.
India is set to tour Australia to play three-match T20I, four-match Test, and three-match ODI series down this year. The T20I series might get postponed if ICC T20 World Cup 2020, scheduled in October, is called off. But the Test series will surely be organized in December.
India will be a serious challenge: Gautam Gambhir
Last year, Virat Kohli-led side had won the Test series against Australia at their home, creating history in Indian cricket. However, the critics didn’t really credit Team India for their win as Australia team was labelled weak in the absence of their two-star performers David Warner and Steve Smith. The duo was out of the team because of the sandpaper gate scandal in the 2018 Test series against South Africa.
But in the upcoming Test series, Warner and Smith will join the team and it is expected to be a high intense series between the two strong sides.
Nevertheless, Gautam Gambhir is confident that Team India’s pacers would be big challenges for the Aussie players. He expects the fast bowlers to get the team across the line.
“India has the fast bowlers to challenge any team in any conditions. I am sure with success on the last tour of Australia in the bag, if we go to Australia, we will be a serious challenge to the hosts,” Gautam Gambhir stated as quoted by Times of India.
Earlier, Australia’s head coach Justin Langer had also said that he looking forward to the battle between Jasprit Bumrah and Steve Smith in the series.
