Indian national cricket team will kick-off the new year (2020) with the home T20I series against Sri Lanka. This series will run from 5th to 10th January 2020.
India and Sri Lanka will play the three-match T20I series in the early January 2020. They will play the first T20I at Barsapara Stadium (Guwahati) on 5th January. Holkar Stadium (Indore) and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Pune) will host the next two T20Is of this series on 7th and 10th January respectively.

Originally, it was the three-match T20I series schedule between the hosts India and the visitors Zimbabwe. But that series went in trouble after the International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) last June due to political interventions.
Finally, last September, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Sri Lanka would be the replacement team for Zimbabwe in the three-match home T20I series in early January. Though the ICC lifted the suspension on ZC in last October, the India-Sri Lanka T20I series remains unchanged.
Sri Lanka have never won a bilateral T20I series against India. They have met in six bilateral T20I series and India won five of these series.
Till the date, India and Sri Lanka have met in 16 T20Is where India have won 11 matches, and the Lions have won five games. In the bilateral T20I series, Sri Lanka have won only two matches while India have won nine games.
In 2019, Sri Lanka won four T20Is out of 13 matches and lost eight T20Is (one had tied lost result). Meanwhile, India won nine games out of 16 T20Is (lost other seven matches).
