India suffers a big blow before the start of the ODI series in the Australia Tour as Mohammad Shami is doubtful for the series after pulling his hamstring in a training session on Friday.
When Shami was bowling in the net just ahead of the warm-up match against Western Australia XI at Perth, he pulled up in his run up. Due to this injury, he was unable to play in that warm-up. India won the match by 74 runs.
After confirming the injury news, a BCCI source said that the final decision will be taken on Saturday whether Shami will be able to play in the series or not.
The source said, “He suffered an injury during the team’s training and is being monitored. Based on the medical advice on Saturday, it will be decided whether he will continue to be a part of the squad or not.”
India will play five ODIs and three T20Is between 12th January and 31st January in the Australian tour. Mohammad Shami is in both the squad.
The 25-years old right-arm pacer was looking to make a comeback in the national squad after nine months. He was out from the national squad due to injury. He had proved his fitness by playing domestic matches in December.
At earlier Mohammad Shami expressed his thinking on his injury, “Injuries are very irritating for me and any other cricketer. It’s very difficult to mentally come out of an injury. I just hope it never happens to me again in my life.”
Jasprit Bumrah from Gujarat is already placed as a standby bowler by the BCCI. He is in very good form in the domestic cricket. He was the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy (domestic 50-overs tournament), where he grabbed 21 wickets in the 9 matches. He has also picked up 9 wickets in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (domestic T20 tournament).
