On Tuesday (21st January), the India U19 team bundled out Japan U19 for the joint second-lowest completed total in ICC U19 Cricket World Cup history. Later, the defending champions won that match by ten wickets as they chased it in a second-fastest way in youth ODI history.

After winning the toss, the India U19 captain Priyam Garg decided to field first. Japan youths failed to showcase any bold character in that entire game. The Indian colts bundled out their opposition for just 41 runs in 22.5 overs. The scores of the entire Japan batting line-up were 1, 7, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 7, 5, 1 and 1 runs respectively. The highest run-scorer in that innings was extras as the Indian bowlers conceded 19 extras (12 wides and 7 leg-byes).

Among the Indian bowlers, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi (4/5) took four wickets and right-arm pacer Kartik Tyagi (3/10) picked up three wickets. Also, Akash Singh (2/11) scalped two wickets, and Vidyadhar Patil (1/8) managed to claim one wicket in that innings.

India U19 reached the target in 4.5 overs

In reply, India U19 chased down that 42-run target in just 4.5 overs without losing any wicket. While Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 29 not out, Kumar Kushagra was batting on 13 runs.

i) Japan U19 were bundled out for just 41 runs. It was the joint second-lowest completed total in ICC U19 Cricket World Cup history. In this tournament history, it was the third time when a team was bundled out for 41 runs. The lowest record in this list is 22 runs by Scotland U19 against Australia U19 at Chattogram on 22nd February 2004.

ii) In youth ODI history, it (41) was the second-lowest completed total for a team against Indian youths. The record in this list is 34 runs by Bangladesh U19 at Lahore on 4th November 2003.

iii) In youth ODI history, it (41) was the joint third-lowest completed total for a team.

iv) India U19 chased down the tiny target in 4.5 overs without losing any wicket as the defending champions won that game by ten wickets with 271 balls remaining. It was the second-largest victory (by balls remaining in the second innings) for a team in youth ODI history. The record in this list is successfully winning by ten wickets with 277 balls remaining by Australia U19 against Scotland U19 at Chattogram on 22nd February 2004.

v) It was the third time in the ICC Cricket U19 World Cup history when the Indian youth side won by ten wickets.
