Defending champions India U19 team have got a very good start in the ongoing ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020. After winning their second match of this tournament against Japan U19, where the defending champions outclassed their opponents, Indian captain Priyam Garg and the other team members won hearts with the nice gesture to their opponents.
In their first match of this tournament, India U19 beat Sri Lanka U19 by 90 runs. They played their second game of this tournament on last Tuesday (22nd January) against Japan U19 where they bundled out their opponents for just 41 runs. It was the joint-third lowest completed total for a team in the youth ODI history. None of Japan U19 players reached the double-digit scores as their scores were 1, 7, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 7, 5, 1 and 1 runs respectively. Indian bowlers conceded 19 extras in that innings. While the Indian leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi (4/5) took four wickets, pacer Kartik Tyagi (3/10) scalped three wickets.
In reply, India chased down that 42 runs target in just 4.5 overs without harming the wicket column. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (29*) and Kumar Kushagra (13*) easily chased down that target. It was the second-fastest successful chasing (by balls remaining) in youth ODI history.
After winning that match, Indian captain Priyam Garg asked the opposition players to take a group photo. India U19 and Japan U19 players jointly took a group photo to make that game memorable.
India U19 and Japan U19 also celebrated together with their players’ birthday
Also, it was the birthday of the Indian cricketer Dhruv Jurel and Japan youngster Kento Ota-Dobell. Both teams celebrated it together as Dhruv and Kento cut a cake together after that match.
