The visiting side Australia has made a comeback in the ODI series after winning the third ODI at JSCA International Stadium Complex (Ranchi) on Friday night (8 March). After this ODI, India is now leading the five-match ODI series by 2-1 with two matches to go.

After winning the toss, Indian captain Virat Kohli sent Australia to bat first. Australia managed to score 313/5 (50 overs) in the first innings. In reply, India was bowled out for 281 runs (48.2 overs) as Australia won by 32 runs.

ii) During the Indian innings, three Australian bowlers picked up three wickets each in this match. Those bowlers were Pat Cummins (3/37), Jhye Richardson (3/37) and Adam Zampa (3/70).

  • It was the first time when three different bowlers picked up three or more wickets each in the same ODI innings against India in India. 

 

India

i) India lost their first three wickets on just 27 runs on the scoreboard.

  • It was India’s fifth lowest ODI total to lose their first three wickets against Australia in India.

  • It was Australia’s third highest ODI partnership for the opening wicket on the Indian soil.

ii) Both the Australian openers, Aaron Finch (93 runs) and Usman Khawaja (104 runs) scored 90+ in the match.

  • It was the fourth time when both the Australian openers played 90+ innings in an ODI match against India in India.

i) Australian captain Aaron Finch scored 93 runs before losing his wicket.

  • Aaron Finch was the second Australian ODI captain to lose his wicket on nervous ninety against India. George Bailey was the first Australian ODI captain to face this. He was dismissed on 98 runs against India at Ranchi on 23rd October 2013.

i)  By the end of this match, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has scored 4,096 runs as an ODI captain.

  • Virat Kohli is the fourth Indian ODI captain to score 4,000+ runs. The top three in this list are MS Dhoni (6,641 runs), Mohammad Azharuddin (5,239 runs) and Sourav Ganguly (5,082 runs).
  • Virat Kohli is the 12th ODI captain to score 4,000+ runs. 
  • Virat Kohli reached 4000 run-mark in just 63 innings, which is the quickest to reach 4,000 ODI runs as a captain.

 

ii) Virat Kohli has scored 10,816 ODI runs for India.

  • He is the third leading ODI run-scorer for India. During this game, Virat Kohli surpassed Rahul Dravid who scored 10,768 ODI runs for India. Only Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs) and Sourav Ganguly (11,221 runs) are ahead of Virat Kohli.  

 

iii) Virat Kohli hit his third ODI century as captain against Australia.

  • He is the first ODI captain to hit more than two centuries against Australia as a captain. 

 

iv) Virat Kohli hit his 45th List A century.

  • With this century, Virat Kohli surpassed Graham Gooch who hit 44 List A centuries. Only Sachin Tendulkar is ahead of Virat Kohli with 60 List A centuries. 

 

v) Indian skipper Virat Kohli scored 123 runs.

  • It was the third highest individual score by an Indian ODI captain against Australia. MS Dhoni  has the top 2 scores with 139* (at Mohali on 19th October 2013) and 124 runs (at Nagpur on 28th October 2009). 
  • In a losing cause, it is the highest individual score while chasing by an Indian ODI captain. The previous record holder was also Virat Kohli with 107 runs against Windies at Pune on 27th October 2018. 
  • In a losing ODI cause, it was the second highest individual score while chasing by a home captain. The record is 141 by Graeme Smith (South Africa) against England at Centurion on 27th September 2009. 
  • In a losing cause, it was the third highest individual score by an Indian ODI captain. The top two in this list are 139* by MS Dhoni (against Australia at Mohali on 19th October 2013) and 127 by Sourav Ganguly (against South at Johannesburg on 5th October 2001).
