India vs Australia 2019: Kedar Jadhav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar Bag Rare Record
Before visitors could seal the series 3-2 of the recently concluded India vs Australia 2019 ODI competition, in an emphatic way on Wednesday night, as Kedar Jadhav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave visitors a scare following a dismal show from the batters. The duo has registered 91-run partnership off 103 deliveries for the seventh wicket. Thus Kedar-Bhuvneshwar went on to achieve a unique record at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi.
Bhuvneshwar scored 46 and Jadhav managed 44 runs during the recently-concluded ODI at Virat Kohli’s hometown.
Even though a duo has failed to cross over the line while losing their wickets on back-to-back deliveries of Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson respectively. In the meantime, Aaron Finch-led Kangaroos have won the game by 35 runs. With it, the guests won the bilateral ODI series after 10 years on Indian soil.
Unfortunately, their promising stay at the crease went in vain when visitors bowlers eked out wickets to win the game by 35 runs. Adam Zampa was the chief-architect with the ball who bagged three wickets while giving away 46 runs in 10 overs.
While chasing a target of 273 runs India had a bleak start while losing Shikhar Dhawan at the score of 15. However, Rohit Sharma went on to score 56 off 89 balls while knitting crucial 53-run partnership for the second wicket before middle-order woes continued to haunt India.
Ravindra Jadeja and Vijay Shankar have failed to make most of the opportunity as wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has thrown it away after getting a decent start.
Rare record from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kedar Jadhav:
Owing to the courage and determination to steady the sinking ship, Jadhav along with Bhuvneshwar had shown immense grit while eclipsing the record of Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar for the seventh of lower-order partnership in ODIs.
In the first ODI, Harbhajan and Praveen have added an 84-run partnership for the eighth wicket. They achieved the rare record way back in 2009 against Australia at Vadodara.
In that particular game, Australia prevailed in a thriller while winning the game by four runs.
Harbhajan slammed 31-ball 49, whereas, Praveen remained unbeaten on 40 off 32 deliveries.
Earlier, Men in Blue won the first two ODIs. However, resurgent Aussies won three on the trot while relying on some top performances. Usman Khawaja played a significant role alongside paceman Cummins, who bagged 14 wickets which included a five-for in Mohali.
Interestingly, Kohli has lost first ODI home series after the hosts were deemed as favourites for the 50-over format.
With this international assignment, Indian players will partake in the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It will commence from March 23 in Chennai. In the curtain raiser, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
