ToggleFormer India cricketer VVS Laxman feels the young batsman from Mumbai Prithvi Shaw, who scored a scintillating hundred on debut, is likely to make big in Indian cricket.
Meanwhile, the flamboyance of Shaw overtook the other centurions as India demolished Windies at Rajkot. He also bagged the man of the match award for his scintillating 134-run knock. Furthermore, Virat Kohli also brought his 24th hundred in the game but VVS Laxman feels Prithvi Shaw overshadowed everybody.

“It’s not often that a Test hundred by Virat is overshadowed. As well as the captain played, his thunder was stolen by a teenaged debutant. Prithvi Shaw is certainly cut out for bigger things. It was heart-warming to see him produce a spectacular century on debut,” Laxman wrote in TOI.
VVS Laxman further added the Shaw’s ability to dominated the bowlers played true to the character. He also noted that Prithvi Shaw knows his game very well and has a maturity level beyond his age which makes him stand apart.
“The young man wasn’t overawed by the occasion or the stage and played in much the same manner as he does in first-class cricket – with a dominant, attacking mindset. His approach revolves around getting on top of the bowling and imposing himself, and he played true to character. That he understands his game so well at such a tender age and is also mature way beyond his years, indicate that he is one for the long haul,” VVS Laxman added.
Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw will look to continue this form in the next Tests and be in the good books of the selectors for the upcoming Test series against Australia.
The second Test between India and Windies starts from October 12.
