In the late 20th century and early 21st century, the right-handed batsman Rahul Dravid was a pure example how the defensive batting can play an effective role to build up a team. Due to his unshakable patience batting, Dravid even got the nickname of “The Wall”.

Dravid had the home Test batting average of 51.35 (5598 runs in 120 innings) and away Test batting average of 53.61 (7667 runs in 164 innings). In his long Test career, the right-handed batsman hit 15 home Test hundreds and 21 away Test hundreds.
